IF YOU enjoy getting out and about on holiday, perhaps taking a pleasant hike by a lake, enjoying a cycle ride or even heading up a mountain pass, then you are going to need the right gear. Versatility is the key when it comes to choice of jacket. You will want one that will protect you from wind and rain, but also keep you warm.
I have been checking out the Pasco from Páramo, which provides all of those things in one durable, weight-efficient garment. With mist-laden mornings and occasional steady drizzle spoiling the weather of late, these were the perfect opportunities for me to get out and about. If you are new to the brand, then be advised that Páramo clothing stands alone from the more conventional breathable membrane waterproof fabrics, thanks to the Nikwax Analogy, which is not only breathable, but also directional. Basically, the fabric system directs condensation and perspiration away from the body, where it can safely drain away.
I do not think I have ever seen such large torso vents on a jacket, the zips effectively running from under the arms to the waist, providing outstanding ventilation, so you are able to benefit from fast, significant temperature adjustment whilst on the move. Unzip part-way from the bottoms up, and you will discover two internal hand-warming pockets. There is also a zipped pocket on the inside of the jacket, and zipped chest pocket. The wire-peaked hood is fully adjustable, allows for plenty of side vision and, more importantly, superb protection. The Pasco has fully articulated shoulders and elbows for maximum freedom of movement. The longer sleeve length comes in handy when cycling, and the wide cuffs, which can be secured with Velcro closure, can be easily pushed up if you need to cool down. The jacket has a shorter cut, which is compensated for with a scooped tail, offering added protection to the lower back. So, in conclusion, Páramo once again come up with the goods. If you like the brand, then you will enjoy the Pasco with the impressive pit zips, shorter length and overall versatility. And, of course, you are guaranteed second-to-none breathability and a high comfort factor.
