Didriksons Dana

This splendid parka-style coat is ideal for those of you who are perhaps looking for a longer length. Attractively designed with its protective peak hood with detachable fur trim, the Dana is available in four colours – Black, Dark Green, Caribbean Blue and Navy. Waterproof, windproof and breathable, it comes with fully sealed seams for complete weather protection. The outer is made from a robust polyamide weave fabric and is treated with a PFC-free water-repellent finish. Combined with the full upper body cover and the windproof outer, the Dana provides excellent warmth and protection from the cold winter elements, and, to be honest, is very competitively priced for what you get, with features including an adjustable hem and sleeve ends, chin guard, inner stash pocket, inside elastic cuffs and Napoleon pocket. £180, www.didriksons.com

Didriksons Nash

The Nash is a newly designed, neatly styled, short lined jacket made in a lightweight material, so is perfect for active use. It has a two-way adjustable fixed hood and snap away powder skirt at the waist. Other features include a two-way front zip with double storm flap, adjustable hem and wrist cuffs, and the inner cuffs have the added benefit of thumbholes. The material is waterproof and windproof, as well as breathable. This is one I will definitely be packing for the snowy slopes. Trawling the Internet, I have seen the Nash vary widely in price, anywhere from £193.99 on Amazon up to £294.75, so it is well worth shopping around. www.didriksons.com

Sherpa Karma

In Hinduism and Buddhism, Karma is the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence. It’s viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. I didn’t know that, so thought you might like to know. Anyway, the Karma is a stylish top with the seams placed off the tops of the shoulders and hips for chafe-free comfort, should you be carrying a rucksack on your travels. Underarm gussets also provide seamless comfort and enhanced mobility. The Karma has a side-entry Napoleon chest pocket and interior media port, which includes Sherpa’s unique low profile media system. Two handwarmer pockets zip shut to secure necessities. £65,  http://www.sherpaadventuregear.co.uk/

Regatta Mons

This soft, lightweight microfleece midlayer jacket has strategic stretch panels for enhanced mobility. As a versatile year-round layering piece, it stretches, insulates and packs down small, so is great for travelling. Stretch binding around the cuffs and hem gives a contoured fit to seal out the weather, while the full-length zip offers venting options. It also comes with zipped lower pockets to secure belongings. The fleece is quick drying, anti pill and super soft to the touch. £40, www.regatta.com

Haglofs Swook

I have certainly been impressed with the Swook as a warm, lightweight and cosy fleece with a knit face, as it works perfectly when worn as either a mid or outer layer. Comfortable, with its lofty inner face and ‘Sweater Look’ knit outer face, body heat is trapped effectively. Although a techy top, it does feel more like a traditional jumper, which makes it perfect for travel, the outdoors, or casual wear. It has a soft, microfleece-lined collar, and an inner placket at the front zip keeps it soft against the chin. Flatlock seams throughout minimise bulk and prevent chafing. Raglan sleeves aid comfort should you be carrying a backpack. £90, www.haglofs.com

EDZ Yeti

Less bulky than a conventional fleece, but much warmer, the Yeti fleeces have proven extremely popular, thanks to their stylish and functional features. Three new colours across men’s and women’s styles having been introduced for winter 2016 by the independent outdoor clothing brand from their Lake District base. Available in S-XXXL for men, and 8-18 for women, check out the black, blue and red options. £60, www.edzdirect.com

Smartwool Corbet

Superb comfort with everyday style are the hallmarks of the Corbet. I have always been a fan of Merino wool, with its soft, breathable comfort and ability to regulate temperature. The jacket’s nylon front panel blocks out chilly breezes, and a DWR coating repels light rain and snow. SmartLoft insulation will keep you toasty, and the athletic fit means the Corbet sits close to the skin for maximum efficiency. The jacket features thumbhole cuffs to stop the sleeves from riding up and helping prevent cold drafts from sneaking in. There are two secure zip hand pockets and secure zip chest pocket with media cord routing. £144.99, www.smartwool.com

Didriksons Crave

A polyester knitted zipped sweater for men. The sweater has two pockets up front as well as thumbholes at the cuffs. The material is breathable. £40, www.didriksons.com
